Can you believe that even after writing and publishing hundreds of books, people are still taking daily steps to hone their writing skills by writing for various renowned magazines and blogs everywhere?

Whether you are a beginner or have been in it for decades, good writing skills takes work. There are no shortcuts, no clandestine sauces that will turn you into a best-selling author overnight. But there are steps you must take if you want to be a better writer.

Focus on These 10 Tips for Becoming a Better Writer

Write down what motivates you

writing skillsAs a child I love sports. I ate, drank and play cricket until an injury took me out of the game and I started writing about sports. I always love sports, When I heard that I had been called to the full-time Christian ministry, I thought that I should stop writing to become a pastor or a missionary. I was thrilled to find that I could use my writing to follow that call.

What is driving you? What motivates you? What is your interest? Your strengths? What opportunities do you have? Write about it because you have more knowledge about your own than something else. Your love will carry you when writing becomes difficult, your love will make your writings right.

Develop a Writing Schedule and stick to it

Manage your writing plan as is your job. There will always be activities: writing, editing, research. You will be amazed at what you can do if you plan yourself in your chair for a certain amount of time every day. Also let people know that unless it is an emergency, you are not immediately available. Respect your valuable writing time and others will respect yours as well.

Be a zealous student

The writers are always students. Good writers are also good readers. Do you want to write in any one area of your interest? First, read a lot about your interest. Learn all you can. By doing so you can learn what works and what does not and lead to good writing skills.

Start small

Take your time to build your writing skills and master them in small projects before you try to write anything. A Journal, a newspaper, a blog, short stories, articles in magazines, or newspapers, etc. Take a short online Course on Blog/article writing or art writing. Try to attend conferences and seminars on writing specially on creative writing. By doing so you can have made access to the global audience.

Write, write, write

Dreamers talk about writing. But the one who writes is a writer. You should continue and improve your writing skills even if you feel unimpressive of your piece. Write daily. And don’t expect to be perfect in the beginning. He was bad at walking until he learned to walk, bad at cycling until he learned how bad at baking until he could. Allow yourself space to grow, and give some time to yourself.

See yourself as a writer

Don’t listen to those who tell you you can’t be a good writer – even if they are just words in your head. You will surely fail if you do not dare to try to write or do anything.
When you write, no matter how successful or unsuccessful you are, call yourself a writer and be proud of yourself.

Join a group of critics of writers

One of the easiest techniques to enhance your writing skill is to have significant input from other writers around you.

Find a critical group of authors or mentors who will be honest with you.

Be prepared to take the ego-bruising first. But I promise you will be a better writer if you will defend yourself, not be allowed to give up, and you are encouraged that you are not alone in this journey.

One warning: Make sure that at least one person, especially a leader, is knowledgeable and understands the writing business.

Write more: choose one

Start by writing at least five topics for your blog, and choose the one that looks best. You can even mix and match to create one theme in all of them. You will be surprised to see the results.

Use Powerful Words

The best theme should be Powerful words (you, free, how-to, new, fast, etc.) to grab your reader’s attention. It should also be relevant to the content of your blog. Some good examples are: “Top HRM Softwares” or “Quick Ways to Write a Blog.”

Use numbers

Numbers make your words clearer. Build credibility while telling your readers exactly what they will find in a blog post. Some good examples are – “How to earn $ 15,000 through affiliate marketing” or “5 tools you can use to grow your business” or “How to Improve Your Writing Skills: 10 Simple Tips” etc.

Use Parentheses or Brackets

Add complexity, bring clarity, and prevent people from scrolling through your topic. Brackets are a great way to add more information (They can help you draw attention to the most important part of your blog).

Use search terms

Think about what readers want to know when searching for information online and use this understanding to write an article that addresses their specific needs, e.g., if someone searches for “the best SEO tools,” your article might look like the Best Tools,  The Most SEO Ever etc.

Hold your student from where you are going

The beginning of any piece of writing is the most important task you will do. Most probably, you will lose your maximum audience here. Your goal with all words is to make the readers want to read the next and next. Connect with them and don’t let them down.

That doesn’t mean violence – unless you’re writing something fun. It means avoiding too much setting and meaning and getting to the right things. Be specific to your topic and make it fun to read for your readers.

Use powerful Verbs

Your sentence may be full of those adjectives and adverbs your teachers and loved ones feel most interested in writing as a child. But the sentence does not seem fit here. Something I learned from my writings years ago changed the way I wrote and added zest to my prose: “Focus on nouns and verbs, not on adjectives and adverbs.

Always think of the student first

This is very important that you should write on a piece of paper and put it on your monitor so that you are reminded of it every time you write. All writing skills decisions must be made through this filter. Not you-first, not book-forward, not editor-first, agent-first, or publisher-first. Certainly not the inner circle of your critics. Treat students the way you want to be treated and write down what you can make them learn. Never let up, never make them tired from your writings.

You think you have good talent and have the best writing skills. You think you are very smart. But the best way to fail as a writer is to spend all your time showing that you know what you are doing rather than learning from the people and resources around you. Keeping in touch with reading and writing to evolve to succeed in your writing skills.
